Hello again, March has been a really busy month helping customers with general IT issues and also supplying a large number of Desktops and Laptops for home and business use.
This month I will be covering three topics, the first is an unpleasant email scam. I was made aware of this by a customer and it has since been in the national media. Users receive an email regarding a recent blood test and their results showed that they are believed to be at high risk of developing cancer. I would imagine most people would ignore this, however those who have recently had blood tests have obviously been caught in a vulnerable frame of mind and been very upset and worried about the email. I just wanted to make people aware of this. Secondly, over the past 6 months I have seen a sharp increase in a fault that stops you logging into your Windows PC. Instead of logging in normally you receive an error message reading ‘The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded’. This issue does prevent you logging into your system but is fixed with a simple edit of your computers registry (Registry: like an index for your computer). I have had some enquiries in relation to this fault that have already been told their systems needed to be wiped and they had lost all of their data. This is not the case, this problem can be resolved very quickly and without losing any data or changing any of your settings. We will always aim to get you back up and running quickly with open and honest diagnosis. Finally, as mentioned many times over the past year, Windows XP support will expire this month on the 8th April. I have previously covered what this means for existing users, so if you are unsure please get in touch.
As always if you have any issues or queries please get in touch, Ian.
